We were very excited the other day to meet this amazing George puppet for the first time! He was made with oodles of love and talent by the amazing Emma Boor (pictured), an absolute puppetry genius! As well as creating hundreds of puppets and shows, Emma has written a book for kids about making puppets from recycled materials, called Bin Goblins. We had no idea what her puppet of George would look like but it felt as if he had stepped off the pages of one of Lee’s wonderful illustrations when we saw him. Emma gave us a fantastic lesson in puppetry – we feel very lucky to have such expert advice and now understand that it’s really not as easy as she makes it look. But it is lots of fun! We are really looking forward to introducing George to young picture book fans when we perform Doughnuts for a Dragon at Bath Children’s Literature Festival on 27th September. Come and meet him there as he goes off to search for a dragon and does a fair bit of scooting along the way!
We’d better get on with our rehearsals – even George is learning his lines… Meanwhile, if you live near Oxford look out for Emma’s amazing puppet shows!
